Choosing a Miami luxury hotel
How to choose a Miami luxury hotel by setting and room category: oceanfront, bay or city, bed configuration, total stay and written confirmation.
Published by Privately Known ·
Miami luxury hotels differ less by label than by setting and room category. An oceanfront address in South Beach, a quieter oceanfront stretch in Surfside, a Brickell city tower and a Coconut Grove bay setting each shape a different trip. Within one hotel, the room category often decides whether you look at the ocean, the city or the grounds. This guide explains how to compare them. It is editorial guidance on suitability, not a ranking, review or claim of a personal visit.
Choose the setting first
Decide where you want to spend your days. Beachfront mornings, city dining and meetings, or a slower bay-side neighborhood each point to a different part of Miami. The examples below are drawn from each hotel's official pages, checked on 13 October 2026.
South Beach oceanfront: The Setai
The Setai describes itself as oceanfront in South Beach, on Collins Avenue at 20th Street. Its room categories distinguish Art Deco Suites from Ocean Suites, so the category matters if an ocean outlook is a priority. Consider it when a South Beach oceanfront address is central to your plans, then confirm which category and view are booked rather than treating all suites as interchangeable.

Surfside oceanfront: Four Seasons at The Surf Club
Four Seasons describes The Surf Club as oceanfront in Surfside. Its categories include an Oceanfront Room and a Deluxe Surfside Room; the latter describes the surrounding landscape, so it should not be read as an ocean-view guarantee. Consider this address if you want an oceanfront stay in Surfside rather than South Beach; confirm the room's outlook separately from the hotel's beachfront setting.

Brickell city: Four Seasons Hotel Miami
Four Seasons Hotel Miami is at 1435 Brickell Avenue, a city setting rather than a beach one. Room categories include a Premier Cityscape Room and a Premier Bayfront Room, so the choice is between skyline and bay outlooks. It is a practical shortlist option when your priorities are centered on Brickell. A bay-view room does not turn a city hotel into a beachfront property.

Coconut Grove bay and city: Mr. C Coconut Grove
Mr. C describes its Coconut Grove hotel in a city and bay setting, with rooms and suites offering bay or skyline views. It is not a beachfront hotel, and no off-site beach arrangement should be assumed.
