1 Hotel South Beach is large — hundreds of rooms on a long oceanfront block at 23rd Street — but it rarely feels institutional. Driftwood, linen, plants everywhere and filtered water taps set a tone that is relaxed and a little earnest. It sits just north of the densest part of South Beach, close enough to walk to dinner and far enough to sleep.

Friends travelling together, active couples and design-minded families tend to suit it. Expect a lively, young-skewing crowd at the rooftop and pools on weekends; if you want true quiet, ask for a room away from the pool deck.

Collins Park, the Bass Museum and the Miami Beach boardwalk are steps away; Lincoln Road is a short walk south. The Retreat Collection offers added inclusions only with eligible categories — ask which apply before you choose.

Because the hotel is so large, the specific room changes the experience. City View rooms face west and are often the best value; Ocean View means an angled sea outlook, while Ocean Front is the true head-on view. Suites and the multi-bedroom Homes add balconies and kitchens that make a week with friends or family much easier.
